experience, honesty and a genuine commitment to your pet’s health
About Muxkilda Veterinary Clinic
“Your pet’s health is our duty and our commitment.”
It’s not just a slogan. It’s how we work every day.
At Muxkilda Albaitari Klinika, we view veterinary medicine as a serious responsibility: supporting families in the care of their animals with clinical judgement, clarity and respect.
Based in Irún, in the Urdanibia neighbourhood, we offer a personalised service, but one grounded in something far more important: real-world experience, continuous training and well-informed decisions.
A clinic born out of a personal story
Muxkilda is not a name chosen at random.
It is a tribute to a family pet that marked an important chapter in our lives and which, as is the case in many homes, was much more than just an animal. It was a companion, a bond and part of the family.
In 2018, after years practising as a vet in Spain and California, Lourdes Elicegui Eceiza decided to return home and create her own space where she could practise her profession in a very specific way:
without rushing, without rigid protocols, and with a focus on the patient’s genuine well-being.
And so Muxkilda Albaitari Klinika was born.
Lourdes Elicegui
over 20 years of clinical experience in Spain and abroad
Behind every clinical decision lies a journey.
Lourdes Elicegui Eceiza, a veterinary surgeon who graduated from the University of Zaragoza in 1998, is also certified by the ECFVG (Education Committee for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) programme in the United States, which has enabled her to practise in California for several years. She is also a registered vet in the state of Idaho.
This international experience brings not only technical knowledge but also a different way of understanding the profession: more structured, more preventative and very much focused on communication with the owner.
Throughout her career, she has worked mainly with dogs and cats, developing a particular interest in areas such as internal medicine, surgery and, in particular, dental health.
Continuing professional development
a choice, not an obligation
Veterinary medicine is constantly evolving. New techniques, new approaches, new evidence.
That is why, at Muxkilda Veterinary Clinic, training is not a one-off event. It is an essential part of our work. Among the most important training initiatives are:
Soft tissue surgery in companion animals
Oquendo Center (Las Vegas, EEUU)
Periodontal disease and tooth extraction techniques
Oquendo Center (Las Vegas, EEUU)
Anaesthesia, pain management and surgery for small animals
Autonomous University of Barcelona
Abdominal ultrasound
Kanalvet (Biscay)
Exotic Animal Clinic
Autonomous University of Barcelona
But beyond the specific courses, what matters is the approach: continuing to learn in order to make better clinical decisions.

A way of working based on honesty
Not all problems are the same. And not all pet owners are looking for the same thing.
At our clinic, we’re clear about this: we work with people who want to take good care of their pets. That means:
Explain clearly what is happening
Explain clearly what is happening
Put the animal’s welfare first
Do not recommend unnecessary tests or treatments
Trust isn’t built on promises; it’s built on explanations.
Trust isn’t built on promises; it’s built on explanations.
Every visit has a clear objective: to improve the animal’s quality of life, not simply to ‘resolve the issue’.
That is why our commitment is based on several key principles:
Personalised service
We do not offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Each case is assessed individually, taking into account age, medical history, lifestyle and circumstances.
Accessible preventive medicine
Many of the problems we see could have been prevented or detected earlier.
That is why we emphasise prevention:
- Regular check-ups
- Care for elderly pets
- Dental health
- Monitoring of chronic conditions
Because prevention is always easier than treatment.
Open and approachable communication
We know that many decisions can be a source of uncertainty: tests, anaesthesia, surgery…
Our job is also to help you understand:
- What is happening
- What options are available
- What the implications of each decision are
Without unnecessary technical jargon, but without oversimplifying things.
Ethical and responsible care
Not all treatments are suitable in every case.
That is why we assess each situation using clinical judgement and common sense, particularly in the case of elderly patients or those with chronic conditions.
Special focus
in dental health and long-term wellbeing
One of the cornerstones of the veterinary clinic in Irún is veterinary dentistry, an area that is often underestimated.
Our experience and specialist training in this field, combined with the equipment available (such as intraoral radiography), enable us to address dental problems comprehensively.
Because it’s not just about cleaning teeth:
We collect detailed information about your pet’s general health
In addition, we work actively with geriatric patients, where the approach changes:
Less unnecessary intervention and more control, comfort and quality of life.
A clinic that blends into its surroundings
Muxkilda is not just a walk-in clinic.
It is located in the Urdanibia neighbourhood of Irún, in a quiet, easily accessible area with free parking.
This allows for something that is often underestimated: making the visit less stressful for the animal. Furthermore, we collaborate with the Miauka animal shelter (Rentería), providing veterinary care for homeless animals.
Because our commitment to animals goes beyond the consultation room.
